Be careful when ordering – not good for last minute

I ordered this a week before Father’s Day, but it did not make it in time. It was also was not clear that this was a “Mother’s Day” card vice Father’s Day. We all got quite a laugh out of it when it did arrive, so that was good, but be careful to make sure you get the right type of card. While it didn’t say so, I should have gotten a clue in that the card was pink and flowery – what was I thinking? Anyway, it was a good laugh, but it took a week and a half to be delivered.

Could not send to a military installation. Makes me pretty mad, have to search for an outside source to bring to them instead. So much for the men and women serving our country, right? I see where they are coming from with the whole “its a risk to send to an APO or P.O. Box”, but yet I can still send anything else other than a gift card? What gives, same risk different object.

Directions for 1 Angel Sachet:

Cut 12″ round from white lace. Place a little amount of assortment in center. Cut 2′ of the gold fabric wire edge ribbon. Raise lace up and tie ribbon just under the potpourri to form a ball at center of lace which is the angel’s head. The tied ribbon is her neck and the remaining lace is her gown. Continue with ribbon by tying a double bow at back to invent the angel’s wings. Shape the remaining ribbon to fall to the sides of the angel’s lace gown for a finelooking accent. Cut a 3″ piece of pipe cleaner and form into circle. This is the Angel’s halo. With glue gun, glue the halo to the angel’s head. With fabric pen, personalize the ribbon tails. Good Documentaries – Nice Packaging

I’ve been waiting for the 30 for 30 set on DVD since they started running the documentaries. I’ve only been able to catch bits and pieces of them when aired, but I knew it was only a matter of time before the DVDs hit.

If you have anybody on your holiday gift list that likes sports and is hard to buy for, try this. Just about everything in the sports world from Gretzky to Reggie Miller to the USFL is touched on, so any general knowledge sports fan, like myself, would be thrilled.

I have not watched all 15 (remember, this is volume 1) of the films, probably 5 or 6 so far, and they are all pretty good. Some are more interesting than others, but that will come down to personal preference.

The packaging is great. Inside the slide out box are six slim cases that have the films split across six discs. I bet they could have got it down to four, but then they couldn’t charge as much! Some people may hate the “raffle” ticket type design that is on the packaging and the menus, but I really like it.

My only complaint thus far is that the menus seem slow. It’s possible that it’s my PS3, so I will not deduct for it, but just wanted to mention it.

All in all, a great collection for sports fans.

My brother got me this for Christmas, and it is fantastic! I am a fairly casual sports fan so I didn’t know what my level of interest in all different documentaries would be (I have never watched hockey or rugby, and I am not wild about basketball), but to my amazement, I was absolutely captivated by all 15 segments. My initial impression was that it would be more geared to the avid sports fan using a lot of dry statistics and specialized knowledge of the games (which couldn’t be more boring to me), but instead it encompasses everything that makes sports so fascinating. It is about the struggle of communities versus corporations (That Band That Wouldn’t Die), goodness versus glamour (King’s Ransom, Run Ricky Run), aging legends (Muhammad and Larry), and microwave dynasties (The U). This is a brilliant dvd collection that isn’t just about sports, but everything that is wonderful (and terrible for that matter) about sports. It is history, it is culture, it is humanity. It is tears of triumph and tears of defeat, and these are the stories that, in a lot of ways, bring people together and tear people apart. Sports, like art and literature, is a reflection of culture and this collection brilliantly marries the two. This is a must own for any sports fan, history fan, film-maker, or cultural analist. Highly recommended.

A must own for sports & American history

Correction: this is a 16:9 format, not a 4:3 as is stated on Amazon. While it is not currently available on Blu-ray format, much of the file footage is pre-HD sourced. Similar for those familiar with the documentary “Tyson,” the DVD format is suitable for most. Upscaling via most Blu-ray players and a HDMI cable will please the majority of viewers.

As this is an ESPN production vs. HBO Sports, the language is toned down, yet still tells the story. I enjoy the personal connection that each film maker has with each piece. The depth of candid interviews (some better than others) is on par with Frontline – making me wonder “how did they get this individual to go on camera?!”

For those considering buying a single release of their “favorite,” 30 for 30, I highly recommend paying just a little more to receive almost 24 hours of content!
Many of the stories transcend sports, and dig into the core of American society.

Money Down the Tubes

$100 dollars wasted. The card is not a Home Depot card, it’s a Home Depot card retailed by [...]. They have tricky rules, the purchaser has to activate the card (the recipient can’t they say) before giving as a gift. The card I gave can’t be activated because the recipient pulled off a sticker that had that activation code. Giftcardmall’s customer service on the phone are terrible and they won’t activate it. They don’t care…they want me to activate it online or they can’t help. Their online site can’t help either unless you have the code from the sticker.

Basically, buy this card if you don’t mind throwing away the money.

A month later, still no gift card. Merry Christmas…not.

I ordered this gift card on 11/29/10. Today is 12/20/10, nearly a month later, and the gift card still has not arrived. I ordered it as a Christmas gift, but seeing as how Christmas is in 5 days, I highly doubt I’ll actually get to give this gift.

I’ve contacted Gift Card Mall twice now. Both responses that I received were identical and did not address my question. I was told that UPS had a tracking error, which is why I was unable to view tracking information for my item. That’s fine. But shouldn’t the seller be able to tell me why the delivery estimate was 12/6 – 12/9, and here it is, 11 days after the latest estimated delivery date, and still no gift card?

Long story short, I will never purchase another item from this seller again. I chose to purchase it through Amazon so I could use my store card, but in the future, I’ll just go to the actual store myself and pay cash.

Fantastic toy, and even better customer service

My 3 1/2 year old daughter got this from Santa for Christmas, along with a few other Melissa & Doug sets. We are big fans of this toy company, so far all the sets we have purchased have been durable and well made, my daughter loved her alphabet puzzle with sound from last year, it still works great and looks brand new.
We got around to opening this set today, and she was all excited, and started to spell out several boards at once…then I discovered the problem, there were no letter “e” in the box, or “a”…only one each of the “d” and “o” letters. So being a long time purchaser of their products, called the number listed on the sticker on the back, and immediately was connected with a LIVE human being, no computer nonsense telling me to press 1 then press 2…that alone was amazing, lol…and the woman I spoke with took all the info quickly, and then without any hesitation told me a new set would be out to my daughter today…no asking me to return the defective set, she was quick, efficent, and very pleasant. This one problem with the set would not have turned me off to their toys, but with such quality customer service I am an even bigger fan than ever of this toy company…

Not impressed with this toy. Good concept very poor execution. We have owned this toy about two weeks. Specifically the top color laminate of the letters is falling off about 25% of the letters. The storage box is poorly made with cheap materials. I would not recommend this toy.

Anniversary gift a success

My son and daughter-in-law used this card and everything went really smooth. I had read some concerns related to other cards and was a bit hesitate. But everything went great and they really enjoyed their appetizer, salad and dessert! A great gift for a young couple who love to eat out!

When thinking in regards to Halloween a good deal of people think regarding ghosts and vampires, when it comes to bloody costumes and fierce characters, without any thoughtfulness of being graceful or chic. Those who want something a little more severe may go even further back in time and choose one of the amount of time costumes. You will surely have a lot of glamorous costumes to choose from. You may even go for the old Venetian costumes employed for the widely known and esteemed carnival. Women may wear those long, splendid and sparkling dresses, while men may choose black costumes with white shirts, specific to long gone times. For an further and added touch of mystery, the Phantom of the Opera costume, with a red rose in hand may be a outstanding choice. No woman will stay insensitive to such a gorgeous costume and all men will jealousy you when you make your aspect in such a costume. There will surely be a better future for you than that the Phantom!

Classic costumes may be outstanding choices for an introductory Halloween party. They will take in another world and make you forget all of your worries. Although it’s not as bold as Oscar darling Chicago, The Phantom of the Opera proceeds the resuscitation of the movie musical with a faithful adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s blockbuster stage musical. Emmy Rossum glows in a breakout role as opera ingénue Christine Daae, and if phantom Gerard Butler isn’t Rossum’s match vocally, he does convey menace and sensuality in such numbers as “The Music of the Night.” The most experienced musical theater veteran in the cast, romantic lead Patrick Wilson, sings sweetly but seems wooden. The biggest name in the cast, Minnie Driver, hams it up as diva Carlotta, and she’s the only necessary whose voice was dubbed (though she does sing the closing-credit number, “Learn to Be Lonely,” which is also the only new song).

Director Joel Schumacher, no stranger to visual spectacle, seems to have found a good match in Lloyd Webber’s larger-than-life resourcefulness of Gaston LeRoux’s Gothic horror-romance. His weakness is cuing too some audience-reaction shots and showing too much of the lurking Phantom, but when he calms down and lets Rossum sings “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again” alone in a silent graveyard, it’s exquisite.

Those who consider the stage musical shoal and overblown in all probability won’t have their minds changed by the movie, and devotees will everlastingly rue that the movie took the better portion of two decades to develop, which prevented the casting of basi principals Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman. Still, The Phantom of the Opera is a welcome exception to the long line of ill-conceived Broadway-to-movie travesties.

DVD Features
The special edition of The Phantom of the Opera has two major extras. “Behind the Mask: The Story of The Phantom of the Opera” is an hourlong documentary tracing the genesis of the stage show, with consultations of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, conductor Harold Prince, producer Cameron Macintosh, lyricists Richard Stilgoe and Charles Hart, choreographer Gillian Lynne, and others. Conspicuously absent are stars Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford. Both do appear in video clips, including Brightman performing with Colm Wilkinson at an early workshop, and Crawford is the subject of a casting segment. Other brief scenes from the show are represented by a 2001 production. The other major feature is the 45-minute making-of focusing on the movie, including casting and the selection of conductor Joel Schumacher Both are well-done merchandise by Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Group.

The deleted scene is a new song written by Lloyd Webber and Charles Hart, “No One Would Listen,” sung by the Phantom toward the end of the movie. It’s a finelooking song that, along with Madame Giry’s story, makes him a more sympathetic character. But because that bit of backstory already slowed down the ending, it was in all likelihood a good move to cut the song. –David Horiuchi

From The New YorkerA bold but fruitless undertake to camouflage the fact that Lloyd Webber’s extravaganza belongs on the stage. Theatre audiences, an effortlessly tickled crowd, may still be aroused by the sight of arid ice being puffed all over the footlights, but moviegoers, who steadily witness whole cities being trashed, are made of sterner stuff. They are likewise liable to feel cheated by weak casting, and therefore the choice of Gerard Butler (the Phantom), Emmy Rossum (Christine, his protégée), and Patrick Wilson (the Vicomte, her No. 2 squeeze) is improbable to find universal favor. The score remains a cunning consolation to those who are scared by the thought of real opera, and the conductor and co-writer is Joel Schumacher, which means that the enterprise is best viewed, if at all, as a prolonged exercise in interior decoration.
